Eat to Sleep Better

There are little tweaks you can do to the way you eat and that will drastically help the way you sleep and improve your sleep quality.

Eat Light In The Evening

The body has to spend a lot of energy and resources on the digestion of food. The way this is done is through blood. A lot of blood will be forced into the digestive system to help digest. This takes away the resources from the brain, which actually results in difficulty to fall asleep.

When it comes to your eating, it should start out big and gradually reduce throughout the day. A big breakfast supplies the energy for the day, but as your day progresses, you should need less energy.

Eat a Small Amount of Fat

You don't want a big meal before bed, but having a little bit of fat is the perfect thing to eat. Dietary fat really has no need to be eaten through the day because it is put to work while you sleep. I like to describe fat as slow energy. It is the energy your body uses while it's sleeping.

Eat Breakfast After You Get Up

You don't want to delay eating your breakfast. The sooner you eat it, the better. It all works into consistency. When you eat early, it tells your body that you're up and it can properly regulate the release of sleep hormones later in the day when you need them. It also has the benefit of eliminating any cortisol buildup throughout the day.
