Falling asleep on Sunday is probably the hardest night of the week. It is an anxiety issue where you start to think about your workweek. If you have a job you hate or an uncomfortable working environment, you'll probably have anxiety associated with it every time you're expected to go back to it.
It may not happen on Sunday's if you have shift work, which seems to be the norm for a bad job. The problem that happens is that this one night disruption can effect the entire week for you.
Typically when you have a job that makes you feel this way, you have to blow off steam on Friday and Saturday night. This means late nights and typically some alcohol. This throws of your current sleeping schedule and internal clocks. Most people can do this, but if you experience sleeping issues, it is probably best to avoid it.
Here are a few things that you can do that can help you with Sunday night insomnia…
- Exercise - Exercise is a great way to release all that built up stress and hatred toward your job. Nothing feels better than pounding a punching bag imagining it is your boss or a fellow employee that drives you into this anxiety-ridden state.
- Avoid Alcohol - Don't drink alcohol on Sunday nights because it throws off your normal sleep cycle.
- Balance - If work seems to be the only thing you're doing all week, Sunday will be bad. If all you have to look forward to is that stress than what do you expect? Try to get some leisure activities during your workweek.
- Consistency - Try to be consistent with the time you get up on Saturday and Sunday. When you keep things consistent, your body is more likely to keep it that way.
